FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What types of courses
are being offered?

Our age appropriate courses reflect the  grade level skills, content, and Math and/or Language Arts curriculum. Certified teachers will review key concepts and reinforce areas of weakness for students entering grades K-8. Our courses are differentiated, meaning they respond to the learning needs of each student. We also offer Enrichment courses for Elementary School students in several areas of interest.  Courses may not run if necessary enrollment numbers are not met.

Kindergarten Camp

The mission of the Montvale Kindergarten Camp is to provide our incoming students with social, emotional and physical growth through a variety of activities in a safe, fun environment.  Kindergarten Camp is also intended to create opportunities for children to meet other kids that will be in their kindergarten class in September.

Elementary School Essential Learning

Essential Learning classes at Memorial School will run similarly to how they have run in the past. They will coordinate closely with the times of our town Recreation Department Summer Camp, from 8:25 a.m. to 9:25 a.m. to allow for students to enrich their day academically while participating in the popular summer camp.

Elementary School Enrichment

Enrichment courses at Memorial School offer another opportunity for students to enrich their day while still participating in the Summer Rec Program. These classes are interest based and  will run from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Middle School Courses

After a great reception to last year's inaugural year, we are bringing back our Middle School "Summer Boot Camp". Boot Camp will offer students a more concentrated curriculum in Mathematics and Language Arts, focused on preparing students for the upcoming school year. Students will be in grade level cohorts for 2 hours (one hour of each Math and LA).

What are the dates
of the program?

Students entering Grades K-4

MSI Essential Learning Classes at Memorial are set to begin on Monday, June 29th, 2020 and end on Friday, July 24th, 2020. With the exception of Thursday, July 4th, all classes run Monday to Friday. Essential Learning classes will run from from 8:25 a.m. to 9:25 a.m., and Enrichment Courses run from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. There will be no MSI on July 3rd.

Students entering Grades 5-8

We are again planning to have our Summer Boot Camp for Middle School students. All  classes will be held at Fieldstone Middle School; rooms are yet to be determined; dates are Monday, July 27th, 2020 through Friday, July 31st, 2020.

When will I know what

my child is enrolled in?

Once the course offerings are finalized, you can click the "OUR PROGRAMS" link for a detailed list of course offerings and for more information on specific courses.

Courses that run will ultimately depend on how many students register for each course. We are hopeful that our course schedule will be finalized in early June. Again, some courses may not run if the necessary enrollment numbers are not met.

Where will classes
be held this year?

Elementary classes and Kindergarten Camp will be held at Memorial Elementary School in Montvale, NJ.

Middle school classes will be held at Fieldstone Middle School in Montvale, NJ.

Will my child receive

a grade for these classes?

While there will be no formal assessment of students, teachers for full summer courses will provide feedback.

Do I register my child based
on the grade level they just completed or the grade
they will be entering into?

Please register your child at the grade level they will be entering in September 2020.

What happens if my child
is also a part of the
Montvale Recreation Program?

Many children enrolled in our Elementary School program are also registered for the Summer Rec Program. Those students will be transitioned from the Summer Institute to the Montvale Summer Rec Program directly from their essential learning class. If they are coming from their essential learning class (ending at 9:25 a.m.), they will arrive to the rec program on time. If they are coming from a later class (ending at 10:30 a.m.), they will be transitioned seamlessly back into their group's activity at that time.

How do I register for classes

We will be using Community Pass for MSI registration for the first time this year. You will need to first create an account with Community Pass, and then select Summer Institute classes you wish to register for. More information to follow.
